About Birch Mobility Equipment Services

 I specialise in the service and repair of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs. I am certified by the Mobility Equipment Training Centre Ltd, (METC). My ultimate goal? Achieving 100% customer satisfaction!

A bit about me. My name is David Birch and I live in Uttoxeter with my wife and have 3 grown up children. I initially trained as a mechanical technician at Pirelli Tyres in Burton. However, having been made redundant from that position, I had a complete career change and spent 30 years as a Police Officer. Even so, throughout that time I maintained an interest in mechanics and 'got my hands dirty' whenever I could. I particularly enjoyed the years I spent helping our eldest son in his quest to become the next Lewis Hamilton. Alas, he didn't make it to F1, but with his race driving ability and my skills as his mechanic, he won Karting Championships both at junior and senior level.

Over the past 10 years or so, I became familiar with various makes and model of mobility scooters that were owned by my dear dad. During those years, I regularly serviced and when necessary, repaired his scooters to keep him safe and mobile so he could continue to enjoy his chosen activities. Unfortunately, my dad passed away in 2024 but I still have his latest mobility scooter. 

Having decided on starting this business, I invested in a course of training with METC, during which I became familiar with a wide variety of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs. I thoroughly enjoyed the training and I have further developed my skills and knowledge that meets the requirements of a mobility equipment engineer.
